Age Nigeria was founded out of a deep sense of necessity, born from the growing concern over the plight of older persons in Nigeria. The foundation was established to address the poor living conditions that many elderly individuals face across the country. Despite having dedicated their youth and energy to serving the nation, most older Nigerians now find themselves living in abject poverty, with little to no support from their families or society at large.
In a country where the elderly were once revered for their wisdom and contributions, many now experience abandonment, neglect, and isolation in their later years. Children and family members, often struggling with their own challenges, frequently overlook the needs of their aging relatives. As a result, countless seniors are left to fend for themselves, without access to adequate healthcare, shelter, or social care.
In 2009, the President mother who was in her late sixty then, requested for the help of her daughter to accompany her to the hospital, Gbagada General Hospital, Lagos for her eyes check up. According to her, she had no incling that that call for help by her mother will eventually reshape her destiny as it turns out to be a call for our amazing President to serve humanity especially the neglected older persons in Nigeria.
